Procedure

Incision:

The incision is made in the natural crease of the lid (Upper / Lower). In the Upper eyelid surgery, excess skin is removed and the fat is excised or relocated and the incision closed by sutures. Surgery on the lower lid depends on the preoperative condition. Bulging fat from lower lid without excess skin is treated by a Transconjunctival blepharoplasty (Scar less and stitch less). Excess skin and muscle require excision of the same and will leave a scar very close to the edge of the lid. Some time there may be too much laxity of the lid exposing the conjunctiva and causing tearing which may require tightening of the lid in the horizontal direction at the corner of the eye called Canthoplasty.

Recovery and Results: Ice application over eyes keeps bruising and swelling down and sutures are removed in 5-7 days time. The bruising can be covered by a makeup and sunglasses. A fresher and more youthful appearance of the eyes with reduced bags and pouches is the norm. Some actually experience an improvement in their eye sight as a result of removal of excess skin.

Duration of Surgery: 45 mins.-1 hr. for a pair of Eyelids.

FAQ

How does a person get rid of the constant "puffiness" under the eyes?
A lower blepharoplasty (lower eyelid surgery) can get rid of the pockets of fat that can cause the puffiness.

Is there any way to alleviate the heavy feeling of the eyes that make it difficult to hold the eyes open?
Yes, upper eyelid surgery can alleviate the "heaviness" that people feel around their eyes when the excess skin of the eyelid weighs down on them.

Where is the incision for eyelid surgery?
The incision for upper eyelid surgery is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and extends slightly beyond the outside corner. For the lower eyelid, the incision is also hidden but below the lower eyelashes.

How long do I need to take off from work after eyelid surgery?
