Breast Lift

Breast lift is needed to reposition and give firmness to your drooping breasts. Drooping or Ptosis of the breasts occurs due to ageing, multiple childbirths or massive weight loss. Breast lift raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

Breast lift can be considered if

Your breasts appear sagging
Your breasts lack firmness
Nipples point downwards and are low lying

Procedure:

The appropriate technique for you will be determined based on:
Breast size and shape
The size and position of your areolas
The degree of breast sagging
Skin quality and elasticity as well as the amount of extra skin

The Incision

There are three common incision patterns:
1 Around the areola
2 Around the areola, vertically down from the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease
3 Around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease

Reshaping the breasts

The underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height. If necessary, enlarged areolas are reduced by excising skin at the perimeter. Excess breast skin is removed to compensate for a loss of elasticity. If your breasts lack volume, implants may be necessary to give more firmness and lift to the breasts.

FAQ

After having children my breast seem "deflated." How do I know if I need breast augmentation with implants or if I need a breast lift or both?
Generally, women after child birth tend to have drooping of breasts. This may be associated with loss of volume too . A breast lift can improve the shape of breasts that:
Have a flatter, elongated shape
When unsupported, the nipple falls below the breast crease
Have stretched skin and enlarged areola
The nipples and areola point downward
Although many women who choose to have breast lifts are happy with the size of their breasts, some women choose to combine a breast lift surgery with breast augmentation (breast implants). If you are unsure if you would like a breast lift alone or a breast lift combined with breast implants, Dr. Sumita would be happy to discuss this with you at your consultation.

Will I still be able to breast feed after having breast lift surgery?
A breast lift does not typically affect breast function. However, because there are many physical changes that accompany pregnancy , you should discuss future pregnancy plans with Dr. Sumita during your consultation.

I have recently lost weight and I am working on losing more weight. Will weight loss affect the results of a breast lift?
Significant fluctuation in weight can affect the long-term results of your breast lift. For this reason, the best candidate for a breast lift is a woman of relatively stable weight.

Is it safe to have a breast lift during the same setting when I am having another cosmetic surgery?
Many women like to combine plastic surgical procedures in order to take less time off from work or to reduce the amount of time that they will need assistance with childcare. Breast lift can be combined with Liposuction and or Tummy tuck procedures.

Are there going to be scars on my breast?
There is usually a scar around the nipple areola and another one going vertically down from nipple till the breast crease. Scars on Indian skin tend to look like dark lines for the first 6 months and then gradually become lighter over next few years. It is rare for scars to become invisible.

What are the risks and complications associated with this procedure?
Like any other surgery breast surgery carries the same risk and complications. Commonly seen complications are delay in wound healing, slight asymmetry and the recurrence of problem. Other infrequent side effects which can occur are bleeding, infection and scars.
